Talking with Salvador Fernández: Flexible Benefits, Technology, and Financial Wellbeing: The Future of Employee Compensation

We spoke with Salvador Fernández, Legal & Declaration Director at Payfit, about how flexible compensation and financial wellbeing benefits are key in employee compensation. All thanks to technology that simplifies processes like payroll and helps employees understand the value of their compensation.

We had the privilege of speaking with Salvador Fernández Martínez, Legal & Declaration Director and Legal & Payroll Expert at Payfit. With a clear vision and a commitment that resonates with Arca, Salvador shares an essential goal: promoting financial education as a pillar of workplace wellbeing.

1. Salvador Fernández's Journey: From Consulting to Payfit

Salvador's professional path is revealing. He ventured outside his comfort zone, drawn by his interest in understanding the details that make up payroll, its "behind the scenes," and how its gears work. With this goal, he began working at a consulting firm, where his dedication and knowledge led him to actively participate in labor forums. It was there that Payfit noticed his talent and offered him a collaboration just as they were beginning to enter Spain.

Currently, his role has been fundamental in shifting the perception of payroll management. Traditionally, the term "payroll" generates unease and is perceived as a simple envelope with the salary, without understanding its composition. Salvador has worked to make payroll a more accessible and understandable product for companies, simplifying its management in a way that wasn't previously possible.

2. Immediacy and Efficiency: Technology in Payroll Management

One of the keys to this change is the use of advanced technology. This raises a crucial question: What differentiates Payfit's technology from traditional consulting?

Salvador puts it clearly: "Immediacy is the key difference compared to traditional consultancies." This technology allows companies to have total, real-time control over their payroll, eliminating the long wait times typical of conventional processes. In this regard, technology has become a fundamental piece in solving numerous business challenges.

When we dig deeper into this aspect, Salvador explains how technology can "remove part of the workload and offer peace of mind." At Arca, we share this philosophy, using technology as an ally to simplify what previously required a lot of effort. Both of us have optimized our processes, allowing companies to manage payroll and benefits more quickly and directly, freeing them to focus on strategic tasks.

3. Flexible Compensation and Financial Wellbeing: Key Benefits for Companies

Within payroll management, one of the most frequent topics today is flexible compensation. Salvador explains that, although it was a novelty in 2016, today its appeal lies in its "ease of use and simplicity to incorporate it into payroll." Unlike other benefits that involve complex requirements and government processes, flexible compensation integrates directly into payroll with barely any paperwork for the company.

Many companies also seek to optimize their employees' salaries through these benefits. According to Salvador, "they ask us for help understanding how the benefit affects payroll or how to include it in their tax return. They ask a lot about the tax and legal aspects," an area where Payfit adds great value.

An additional topic that arises in workplace benefits is Corporate Savings Plans. Although the tax incentives and benefits are clear, Salvador acknowledges that "he's surprised by the adoption by companies regarding this type of benefit since they have great tax incentives and address a latent pain point for employees." However, as complexity is reduced and more success stories are shared, the adoption of financial wellbeing benefits will grow exponentially.

4. Evangelizing the Savings Culture Among Young People

For Salvador, one of the great challenges is that many companies "are unaware of the benefits or don't understand how they affect them." This lack of awareness is especially relevant among new generations of employees, whose time preference focuses on the short term with the risks this entails.

At Arca, we strive to highlight the value of savings in the short, medium, and long term for all employees, regardless of their age. Financial wellbeing benefits start adding up from day one and allow for significant savings accumulation over time, especially if started in the early years of working life.

Just as Payfit has managed to simplify the payroll generation process, at Arca we have broken down the communication and implementation barriers for these benefits. Through technology and specialized support, we help organizations understand and maximize the value of these savings plans, ensuring that the process is as efficient and direct as payroll management in Payfit.

It was a pleasure for us to speak with Salvador and learn from his experience and vision.

At Arca, we share with Salvador Fernández a common vision: technology must simplify work and offer peace of mind. This frees companies from repetitive tasks and allows them to focus on strategic aspects. As Salvador aptly summarizes, the goal is "to remove the workload so that companies can focus on what truly matters."
